I am Nicolas Demers, a Web developer living in Vancouver, BC. Originally from Ottawa, I moved here in 1996 ago to do my Master’s in Computer Science and haven’t looked back. I love Vancouver, and there’s nowhere else I’d rather be.
After a long career in software development, I am taking the plunge into freelance Web design. This is something I’ve been doing on a volunteer basis for a while, and enjoying very much. I still have a lot to learn, but I am looking forward to this new challenge, and a new chapter of my life. Please view my portfolio here.
I love volleyball, and have been playing it regularly for years. I also enjoy photography; starting out with cheap little disposable cameras after I moved here, to show the people back home what the West Coast looked like, then graduating to bigger and bigger digital cameras. This site has existed in various forms since 1995. In 2003 I got my own domain, and in 2008 I migrated to WordPress. The current design dates from July 2010. It is a mix of Twenty Ten and Erudite. The header image was taken by me; it shows Vancouver’s West End—my neighbourhood—as seen from Burrard Bridge.

Hiya,
Came across your site while looking up cool poetry, thoroughly enjoyed ‘the old astronomer to his pupil’.Had a keen interest in poetry in school but sadly that was awhile ago now so lost a lot of the scraps i had amassed, so would appreciate anything that you could share that might be of interest.
Incidentallly, some of the tags I wear are straight, young mother of one single 6yr old hurricane.I live in Mombasa, Kenya, and can speak a little french which i did an a-level in.
Hope to hear from you soon.
BTW, what on earth is Taijiquan, is it some martial arts thing? Sounds cool though.
Hi,
Rambling around the web – gathering ideas of where I might show my art in Vancouver – and found you listed on GayVancouver. Im also into web design, though I arrived from a different direction: art school. I constantly feel like I need to know more but often don’t know where to start. Sometimes it feels like web design isn’t something one can do alone. SEO scares me half to death. Does that make sense to you? Would love to hear you thoughts. Cheers, -M
