About This Site

NPDemers.Net is my little corner of the Web, where I share my thoughts, photography, and anything else I think people might find interesting. It also serves as a testbed to practice my Web development skills. I try to stick to Web standards as much as I can, and all pages validate as XHTML 1.0 Strict. The site is powered by Wordpress and Gallery, and hosted by Dreamhost. I use Adobe Illustrator to create the graphics, and The GIMP to handle photos.

About Me

Me and some artI am Nicolas Demers, a software developer living in Vancouver, British Columbia. I moved here from Ottawa in the summer of 1996 to do my Master’s in Computing Science and decided to stay. Some of the labels I wear include gay, atheist and French-Canadian. I’ve been fluent in English since my early teens, but sadly I’ve lived out West for so long that my spoken French is getting rusty.

My pastimes include photography, playing volleyball, practicing Taijiquan, and of course puttering around with Web technologies, which I’ve been doing for over a dozen years now. Though most of experience is with desktop software, my current job has me doing Web development, which means I’m getting paid to do something I enjoy.

    Hiya,

Came across your site while looking up cool poetry, thoroughly enjoyed ‘the old astronomer to his pupil’.Had a keen interest in poetry in school but sadly that was awhile ago now so lost a lot of the scraps i had amassed, so would appreciate anything that you could share that might be of interest.

Incidentallly, some of the tags I wear are straight, young mother of one single 6yr old hurricane.I live in Mombasa, Kenya, and can speak a little french which i did an a-level in.

Hope to hear from you soon.

BTW, what on earth is Taijiquan, is it some martial arts thing? Sounds cool though.
